Painting of the Week

Painting of the Week – Ye Old Creamery

Play with Irregularities

Play with Irregularities

Paul’s grandmother lived in Elizabeth, MN. Often, Irene Diederich would schedule family trips to visit Gram in the motor home. She stocked it with Hor’s D ‘Oeuvres, drinks, Deviled eggs were always a specialty and whatever else we were adding to the menu. We always checked out the dam and sometimes picked apples. I finally painted “Ye Old Creamery” across the street adding some Hollyhocks growing nearby.

To show the age of this building, colored line was used to display the irregularities in the roof. These lines almost become shapes by changing their width and color. The diagonal blast of yellow against the shaded side of the roof seemed to bring the painting to life.

Sincerely,
