Spheres & Cylinders
It was a lovely morning when I painted this beautiful “Cactus Arrangement” surrounded with black stone. In the desert, it is cool at 8:00 am. We layer are clothing as it gets hot quickly. My Black & Pink Watercolor USA hat and paint-proof matching jacket looked drab next to the colorful painters. They bought their vibrant multi-patterned layered shirts at a thrift shop and didn’t worry about getting paint on them.
My students know how much I get into painting spheres and cylinders. It is an excellent lesson or warm up for any painter. Practicing those skills really helped on location as I could simplify the details on the Golden Barrel & Torch Cactus quickly. A grid was applied prior adding some interesting color changes. Please notice how despite the fact the ground is covered with black stone, it looks gray as the light is hitting directly on it.
Sincerely,
