Painting of the Week

Painting of the Week – New Year’s Resolution

Slowing Down

Slowing Down

Sometimes I rush into a painting with too much enthusiasm. This painting symbolizes the need to slow down –my New Year’s resolution. I sketched this out on canvas, but the proportions of my canvas were not the same causing much trouble. Instead of figuring it out, I just jumped in and started painting. It was so much fun I have decided to paint these Date Palm Trees again much bigger and exaggerate the color & texture. This subject simply needs more room for me to paint it. This piece could be considered a practice, but I can fix the composition.

This painting is a good example of why we need to understand the Crevasse Theory on page 27 of my Progressive Painting-Your Creative Journey book. When your eyes slide between objects and the space is parallel, it is boring. See how the space is even between the Date Palms on each side. I will add something to break up that vertical and show you later, but I didn’t have time to do it today.

Sincerely,
