Painting of the Week

Painting of the Week – Forest Glow II

Layering Transparent Colors Over Dark

Layering Transparent Colors Over Dark

Forests are full of life. You have to wonder what is watching you when you walk through one. Most wildlife is timid and knows better than to confront you, finding safety hiding in the leaves. Following a trail is fun and feels safest as my biggest fear is not being able to find my way back. In Forest Glow II, the S-curved whites invite you in.

The lower right hand corner of the piece has a darker blue grid square over it. That gives weight to the bottom of the painting, which is helpful, but also challenging. Painting lighter transparent colors on top of the blue added a pattern of falling leaves.

Sincerely,

Roadside Stop was accepted into Red River Watercolor Society’s National Online Watermedia Exhibition – opens in June.  The price is a  good deal as you get the piece framed for free!

Shade & Shelter is on its way to the Watercolor West International Exhibition in Oceanside, California.

Moseying Home is in the American Impressionists Online Member Show. There are 258 paintings in this show – only 9 of them are watercolors. See the free VIDIO of me making this painting in Workshops. I made some changes to “Moseying Home” last summer and was quite please with the results.
