Mid-Summer Trees – Painting of the Week
The Challenge of Green
Soon trees will be budding out everywhere, following quickly with bright yellow-green leaves. As sunshine, rains, wind and temperature affect them, the leaves will change color. Mid-Summer Trees displays a quiet roadside with trees of a large range of greens, in shadow and in the sun. What a glorious sight they are. Impossible to give them justice, I have admired this cluster of trees for years and finally painted them.
Greens have the largest range of colors in the palette and can easily turn nasty. I started with the cool greens (with more blue in them) as they were in the shadow and painted them darker. Some Red-Violets were also used, versus brown for the trunks, as a subtle cool compliment bringing the greens to life. The warm greens (with more yellow in them) were added with branches on the sunny side. I varied the greens from warm to cool but keeping a dominant temperature to keep the color more attractive. The sun hitting the field in the distance contributes to the warm dominance.
Sincerely,
