Palm Impression – Painting of the Week

Exaggerate

Exaggerate

These Palms are along Ramon, between Cathedral City and Rancho Mirage. After a previous effort to paint them, a decision was made to give myself more room to explore the Palms. Palm Impression is a larger painting. I chased down one of those dramatic mountain skies with my camera and noticed huge sand dunes that lead up to the mountains for the background.

This painting isn’t realistic as it is an exaggeration of color and shadows. It follows many key compositional points using intensity to bring out the largest Palm. The Warmest Orange against the Coolest Blue are color compliments which also make it pop. The variety in size and overlapping shapes create eye movement patterns.  Some areas were more detailed and others more blended.

Sincerely,
