Painting of the Week – Welcome Home

Painting Flower Clusters

Painting Flower Clusters

A beautiful garden will enhance any space. It is a feast for the eyes. This one was in Glendale, Minnesota. Can you imagine the fragrance of walking by a garden like this? The gardener was out watering and enjoying her flowers when I came by with my camera. She told me how she transferred several of the perennials from other beds and that this garden had been growing for years. It inspired me to create this very impressionistic painting.

In “Welcome Home”, the house & garage become a large, simple but interesting background shape. Its multi-colored gray tones push it back and the white phlox stand out clearly as the center of interest. What makes this work are the varied shapes of the flower clusters and leaves, arranged in different colors and values. The colored patterns of the petals, leaves and shadows unify the painting.

Sincerely,
