Geometric and Organic Shapes

Geometric and Organic Shapes

Finding this window box in South Carolina was a must paint for me. This is a warm dominant painting (Red, Yellow & Orange). What I like so much about this painting is how the overflowing flowers (organic shapes) dominate the man made (geometric shapes).  This painting tells the story of how a seed can enhance an environment and create something beautiful with love and care.  Looking back on this piece so many years later, I love it even more now. That is a good feeling.

Geometric Shapes are generally measurable, have symmetry and are manmade. Organic Shapes are nature and organ based, mostly asymmetrical. The co-existence of these shapes is inspirational. It is an important to recognize and choose what shapes will dominate in a painting. Dominance gives strength and direction to a piece.

Good news! My painting Happy Hour was selected for Acrylics 8 – a highly competitive juried competition. Acrylics 8 will be published as a special 116 page edition of Artists Magazine in their August 2021 issue.  This painting will also be displayed at the Capital Gallery, Bismarck, ND where I will be featured April 10th – May 31st.
