Allow yourself to make tough changes for improvement
I can hardly believe it – Tethered was accepted into the American Watercolor Society’s 154th International Exhibition and is on display at the Salmagundi Club in New York City until April 30th. There were 5 jurors of acceptance and I learned that it takes 5 scores equaling 24 to 25 points to get in. What is really exciting, is this is probably because I have been focusing on my goal of developing the “Center of Interest” in my paintings. To do that, this large painting was taken out of its big custom expensive frame, cut in half and modified. Thank goodness it got in as it feels like it was worth it since I tried for 30 years to get into this show.
Simple modern technology helped me be brave enough to make this change. The big problem was the original had two “centers of interest”. I cropped the painting on my computer to decide exactly where to cut it. After that, I worked on editing out any distractions & problems. In the process, I noticed several triangular motifs which were fascinating to consider and modify as necessary to make the design stronger.
Sincerely,
