Using Mixed Media is fun!
When you discover something you haven’t seen, or see a different view to something, it perks up all of your senses. That is how I feel about this new original Forest Secret. A century ago, the showy lady’s slipper was a favorite adornment in rural church altars during the summer. Watch for them. Usually they bloom in late June or early July. I have never seen a huge one, in fact they are illegal to pick or move, but these plants can live up to 50 years and can grow four feet tall. Usually you only spot one or two plants alongside a Minnesota Highway –try 34 Northeast of Detroit Lakes, MN!
In an earlier painting, Lady of the Woods, I became more aware of sphere like shapes because they were in such a big grouping. In this piece, I took the spheres and multiplied that factor and overlapped them for fun adding stamping. All of sudden, my brush painted a linear shape of pink on top of the white petals. Adding Gouache (opaque watercolor) and metallic watercolor to this piece gave it a special magic.
