Painting of the Week

Painting of the Week – St. Mary’s Cathedral

Painting things the way you think of them

The beautiful St. Mary’s Cathedral is in downtown Fargo.  The Catholics use of a confessional is a great thing. It seems easier for me to move forward when I confess my mistakes to my friends. Forgiveness is a wonderful thing. Maintaining a creative mind is a goal of mine, so painting is also a very positive place for me to put my energy, which I find a challenging, joyful and therapeutic.

Because of my interest in Architecture, it is really fun to paint buildings. I also love the landscape. St. Mary’s is surrounded by big beautiful trees and lovely gardens. My photographs of the church disappointed me greatly as the trees felt miniature instead of great and embracing. I guess it makes sense since this large building dwarfed the trees. So, I painted them as big as the way I thought of them. For fun, I used some of my stamps to create stars in the sky.  Out of the stamping came a sleigh and 8 tiny reindeer.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!
