Outside the Lines
When I was 9, my sister Darin helped improve my coloring. She showed me if I moved the crayon in a circular motion, it would look like fur and that I could use my fingernail as a bumper to keep my crayon in between the lines. Today, even though I carefully draw out my subject, I always use my photograph as the dominant view and make additional corrections while painting. Apparently, this happens so consistently, painting out of the lines has become part of my style and seems to work.
The 64th Midwestern Art Show opens this weekend and runs through September 3rd. Ironically, the theme this year is “Outside the Lines”. Lakeside View was happily entered. This beautifully framed smaller watercolor of Lake Sally is an unconscious little lovable gem. I hope you can stop by and see the show at the Rourke Art Museum that includes nearly 150 original works by regional artists.
Sincerely,
