Painting of the Week

Painting of the Week – Island Fisherman

Arranging Shapes

Arranging Shapes

Looking at this painting, the recent heat wave made me think how refreshing it is to stand in the water on a hot day. This 1990 painting is near a fishing market in Cancun, Mexico. Paul was on shore purchasing fresh Mahi-mahi for dinner while I photographed this scene.

The docks, water and buildings create several horizontal bands in this painting. Notice how the placement of the buildings and figures along the horizontals are arranged diagonally to each other. Visually, diagonals suggest movement and add to the feeling of activity in this piece.

Sincerely,
