A simple subject + a simple idea = watercolor fun!
Painting of the Week – Serendipity by Fargo Artist Ellen Jean Diederich
Here is a painting that painted itself. You may have noticed I painted a few wheelbarrows in my day. This one is probably my favorite. It is like the planting job you started and didn’t finish…but it looks good anyway. Isn’t that great?
There were key decisions that made this painting. A limited palette was chosen….Rose Madder Genuine, New Gamboge, and Cobalt Blue. The subject was placed carefully making an attractive composition and filling most of the page. The light colors were painted on top of the grid. Finally, varied medium darks defined the light shapes and shadows using the same limited palette. NO fussing was allowed.
Learn to make a simple painting and have fun at my upcoming Beginning Watercolor Workshop. I would love to help you learn how to enjoy and work with watercolor. This class is at the Fargo Holiday Inn, July 23-26 Get more information or sign up online. Email [email protected] any of your questions.
