Gradation
I was driving from Palm Desert to Rancho Mirage while a biking Marathon was going on. In Morning Ride, there were all types of bikers. Some dressed to the nine’s looking professional and others in their T-shirt and shorts. This group weaved in front of my car to cross the intersection. The flat street ahead looked like a relief for Cyclers.
The large areas have washes that gradate (gradually change) with the light. My paper is at a 25 degree angle so a bead of paint forming at the bottom can easily attach to the next color. Sometimes I turn my paper upside down to gradate a different direction. By having several pigments ready in puddles on my palette, they can steadily be set next to each other and smoothly join.
Sincerely,
