Accent colors
You may recognize the upper right corner of this painting “Minimum Wake” from my November blog. The scene is from South Dakota, but the boat was in Minnesota that Paul and I followed from Pelican Lake to Little Pelican. You have to boat under a bridge to get to the other lake where swallows nest, making it necessary to cover your glass and keep your mouth closed. Despite the fact you shouldn’t look up, last summer we noticed several long haired rubber trolls some witty collector had added free of charge. With all these blizzards, this painting is making me feel nostalgic… the good news is spring is getting closer. Paul and I love puttering by the reeds and seeing the tadpoles race by.
Minimum Wake is predominantly a green painting. It is another example of greens being warmer and darker in the foreground and cooler and lighter as they recede. What freshens this whole painting is the small accent of violet next to the blues in the center and the Red in the boat. The proportions of the dominant color and accents are significant.
