Painting of the Week

Painting of the Week – Fargo Marathon

Showing Motion

Showing Motion

I’m sure you know someone who ran in a marathon, or perhaps you have yourself. My daughter Brittany has run a few and is in this picture from a few years back “in the red socks”. Fargo Marathon shows the beautiful morning light as it sparkles off the pavement near downtown Fargo.

This painting is an acrylic on paper. I poured three pigments onto wet watercolor paper and tilted the board it was stapled to letting the pigments run together. The colors are more pastel,  because of the amount of water used, and their self blending made this under-painting glow. Faces and figures were given soft irregular edges and features were blurred to suggest movement.

Sincerely,
