Painting of the Week

Painting of the Week – Tango

Smooth vs Pattern

Smooth vs Pattern

This painting with its sparkling warm palette using Hot Pink, Orange and Yellow-Green is a hot house mix of color. I have been haunted to paint a bouquet of flowers in these colors since I saw them in a garden shop in Wayzata years ago – so it is a large watercolor. Tango brightened my whole studio during a blizzard and is stunning in its Cocoa Raku glazed wood frame. This contemporary painting is worth viewing in person along with the rest of our show at the Three Women- A Watermedia Exhibit. The exhibit is up for its 3rd of 6 weekends ending April 3rd.

Smooth versus pattern is an interesting contrast to explore. In Tango, three main oversized flowers press forward among flowers displaying masses of petals. Both are interesting, but the simple ones allow your eyes to rest during your visual journey. The large shapes are dominant.
