Whizzing By – Painting of the Week
Creating Motion
Our daughter Brittany is an avid biker. It can be such a dangerous sport. She takes mountain trails and rough terrain. Detroit Mountain is the closest one. The use of a helmet is no joke. There is a wide variety of gear for bikers and so many different types of bikes. For me, when it came to gears, I never learned how to use them. Painting bikes or walking is more my style. I love this portrait of her drawn out from a picture on my iPad during a lecture.
In this watercolor, look for the diagonals in her helmet, her hair and the background. There are several lines that show direction that connect into something. Her hair is very rough like it is blowing in the breeze. The background is blurred but bumps into and away from her at interesting intervals. The edge of her eye connecting into her shades with varying darks and highlights really make it work.
Sincerely,
