Prickly Plantings – Painting of the Week

Before & After

Before and After

One of my goals for my art is focusing on simplicity. Simplicity requires considerable thought. At a workshop, I asked the instructor to help me with this. After working on a painting formally called Turks Cap, he told me to stop, so I did, but really didn’t feel it looked done. A year later, I asked a friend what she thought and she said, “It doesn’t look done”.

It wasn’t done for me. My fascination with these plants was not satisfied. Using my recent practices, Gouache was used to bring it to life. It was so much fun. However, my simplicity focus was not disregarded and benefitted this painting. For example, the pots and several bottle caps (a nickname for Turk’s Caps) only suggest quantity and how the light hit them. Simplicity leaves room for the imagination of the viewer. See a “before” picture below. Which view do you like better?

A new phone case might be a fun gift idea this holiday!

There are several options and selections for most any phone with my paintings on them through Fine Art America.  I recommend the “tough” case. They last long and the look great even if you drop them.

Just select your favorite image and choose the ‘Phone Case’ option to get yours!
