Sunshine Graze – Painting of the Week
Change of Plan
These Angus cattle had come over the hill from the ranch on the other side. It was actually raining when I took the photo. Because of that, my very distinct goal for Sunshine Graze had absolutely nothing to do with sunshine. The hill came across when I added an open area in the trees and a few dawdling cows, and in the process, the colors were adjusted. The painting began to glimmer with light when violet and blue shadows were added, enhancing its golden tones.
The changes began by starting with a bigger canvas than originally planned. It was the right shape in stock at the time. My effort to stick with the original ideas weren’t working together but did add to the overall richness in texture and color. Attempts to neutralize the color into a gray day only made everything out of whack. I finally accepted what was happening and worked to balance the painting. May be someday I will revisit that idea.
Sincerely,
