Painting of the Week – Tranquility
Distant Reflections
Do you ever find yourself looking at water and feel some type of restorative peace? Water has so many varying states. I had a hard time leaving the scene of this charming little stream that heads to Bucks Mill, near Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Perhaps that is why it took so long to finish Tranquility. My education seemed to suggest the need to add something in the water but instead of coming up with ideas, I kept daydreaming. Finishing the water was all that it needed.
The water here has many colorful reflections as it travels from the bend to the foreground. It is the big shape. The ripples in the water were small and the challenge was to keep it quiet but moving. Instead of adding more ripples, the water was repainted even darker, and gouache was added on top.
Sincerely,
