Painting of the Week – The Fargo Scene (partial)
Simplifying Buildings
The buildings in Downtown Fargo continually inspire me to paint them. The city is active in construction and there are several newer buildings I hope yet to paint. What is amazing to me, is that generally when my painting is finished; it is already a historical view of Fargo.
Due to the direction of the sun, this view of Broadway facing south is much warmer in color than last week’s view. The dramatic color change from left to right is asymmetrically balanced by having a greater amount of warm colored buildings. There are so many buildings in this scene, they are simply presented more as proportional and varied shapes that you might recognize. Note how the three figures in the foreground blend into the car to help the eye flow through the scene.
Sincerely,
