Grapes in Gold & Violet – Painting of the Week

Transitions

Transitions

Looking through my files for a subject that might warm you up, I stopped on this forgotten painting of grape vines.  This subject makes me think of a beautiful glass of red wine and warms my heart. The palette in this painting features Yellow-Green and Red Violet toned down to the minor keys. The overlapping leaves point and lead the eye through the painting. I hope you feel the warmth.

By harvest time, the leaves lighten as they age through the summer season. Color transitions add greatly to the beauty of this painting. Crusty gold leaves and brown vines provide rich contrast to the violets. Gradual color changes slow the eye, allowing the viewer to enjoy the color even more as they explore the painting.

Sincerely,
