Poise – Painting of the Week

Counterbalance

Poise is a demonstration painting completed in my Color Design class for The Watercolor Society of Alabama. Painting with these wonderful attendees is a joy and it was quite a challenge to select awards for their member exhibit at the beautiful Heritage Hall Museum in Talladega, Alabama. It is humbling to lead this very talented and enthusiastic group as we explore color.

In this painting, the Red Canna Lily’s beauty is accented by using Orange highlights and Violet shadows. The power of the color is accentuated by being dramatically placed against smaller quantities of complementary varied Greens. This dynamic shape is beautifully counterbalanced by a small Fuchsia bud.
