Party Like It’s 1999 – Painting of the Week
Loose Painting
Dug out of my archives, these cows were painted similar to how I do a life drawing; based on where bone and muscle meet. The paper was dry but the paint was applied quickly letting it connect in a wet and wet way. This piece made it into a national exhibition at the Northwest Watercolor Society years ago near Seattle. It was created before I started numbering my paintings. If it is your painting, please email me back as I’d like to update my records.
“Party Like it’s 1999” totally fulfills a visual description of loose painting. It was so much fun to apply such strong and deliberate brushstrokes without blending them in. Nothing is touched up or cleaned up in this painting and the paint was wet enough to run wherever it wanted to go. My style is generally considered loose and this painting was at the far end of that.
Sincerely,
