Chicken Salad – Painting of the Week
Order to Creation
This painting is in my award winning book “Where’s Petunia?”, Ole, my girls favorite cat, posed unknowingly as Petunia. In this scene, the cat asks the chickens “Have you seen Petunia?” The chickens, who didn’t know who Petunia was, replied “No, these are Begonias”. Chicken Salad, created in 1991, developed from my interest in painting domestic animals in flower beds. It was so much fun. “Where’s Petunia?” wasn’t even a speck in my eye then, but I believe more than one person looking at it said I should illustrate children’s books. The book won a Benjamin Franklin Gold Medal in 2014 for fiction due mostly to Lynette Wert, professor of Children books from Oklahoma University.
Hope everyone has a happy and healthy Easter,
