Painting of the Week

Painting of the Week – Winter Wool

White on White

White on White

Do you see snowflakes when you think of woolen sweaters and mittens? The moisture-wicking quality in sportswear today often contains wool fibers to cool or warm your body. One of my Dad’s first jobs was being a lumberjack. He told us how his red flannel wool shirts helped him stay warm. Seeing this herd in a winter wonderland inspired the creation of Winter Wool, which I am offering as a new Season’s Greeting Card. I recommend looking at the extra images to see the beautiful interior of this card.

It’s so much fun to color the Whites in paintings and place them near pure White. White surfaces reflect hues of all colors and can be quite dramatic closer to sunrise or sunset. The Suffolk sheep in this mixed herd with their dark legs and faces gave me great contrast to work with. With Acrylic, I mixed Grays with different hues to expand the mid-tone colors in this painting.

Sincerely,
