Lake Spray – Painting of the Week

Story Telling

Story Telling

Hot days can be beautiful at the lake. Here friends and strangers cool off at the sand bar. They may frolic in the shallow water or meet someone. In Lake Spray, the water casts its blue reflections onto the shadow side of the figures. Some of these youths are interacting with their cell phones or the boat that sprayed them as it went by. Perhaps they are notifying more friends to join them. So busy, they don’t see the mysteriously nude woman who appeared by accident under my brush.

Where crowds gather, within them are smaller groups and singles. Simplify with descriptive figure shapes for those farther away and/or engage more intimately by increasing detail. Are they interacting with other groups, singles or on their own? Their placement, directional stance and eye movement patterns between people and things, tells the story.

Sincerely,
