In the Round – Painting of the Week
Revisiting a Subject
Apparently, I’m attracted to painting haybales. In the Round is a portrait of a single round haybale in acrylic. I hope to find a stack of those large rectangular bales to paint, made by the newest balers. It was fun to use a variety of violets underneath the greens in the forest for contrast.
On the farm, my sister Darin and I harvested hay. She drove the tractor and I put hay into rows using a dump-rake. After we pushed the rows into piles, using pitchforks, she pitched the hay up to me and I arranged it on a trailer. We then drove it up near the barn and unloaded. That would have been a fun picture of me on top of the hay stack as she drove us up the hill. She pitched it down to me and I arranged the hay pile in a rectangular shape. I know we made two hay stacks one day and our dad brought us “fluffy white donuts and root-beer floats” when we were done. We both fondly remember joking and laughing about harlequin romance stories while we enjoyed our treats.
Sincerely,
