Guardians of Gold – Painting of the Week

The Color Yellow

The Color Yellow

This is the 3rd of three beekeeper commissioned compositions. The lovely rolling hills near Lamoure, North Dakota glisten in the sunlight backlighting the beekeepers at work. These “Guardians of Gold” look so peaceful working with the bees. It was so interesting to see this landscape come alive after working on the big central field.

Yellow is related with wisdom and the ability to perceive, understand and communicate from our truth. When you see the Painting “The Scream” (shown below) by Edvard Munch, it’s the dirty Yellow Orange reinforces the emotional trauma the person walking over the bridge is going through. Bright yellows sometimes scream of commercialism or cuteness and easily can be worked into total muck. On the color the wheel, yellow is the lightest color with a huge amount of power that must be respected. For “Guardians of Gold” the rich undertones were painted first changing in a gradual manner and the brighter yellows were added last.

Sincerely,
