Invitation to Play

I was out for a walk when I spotted these flowers sparkling in the sunshine. Since I didn’t paint them realistically, it would be hard to guess if they are in the Daisy or Zinnia family. The leaves, though sparse, look more like Zinnias. Sunplayers, with their Fushia and Yellow palette, change their look everyday as they mature.

After the flowers were painted, their bright colors invited me to play. It was fun to add a subtle grid to line up passages and then embroidered them with watercolor pencil. Overlapping flowers is also a great way vary and change the size of the flower shapes.
