Through the Woods is an original painting in Watercolor & Gouache by Ellen Jean Diederich featuring a walkway lined with trees in different shades of green and yellow in late summer.
The Creative Journey: Passageways can be so fascinating. The environment is always changing as we move along a path, often interrupted by a surprise. Light coming through the leaves enhances their color, casting beautiful patterns or shadows. On this walk Through the Woods, I saw cardinals, a model bunny, and several deer, as well as people running, biking, or walking by.
Light is transmitted through the green and yellow leaves of the trees because of their transparency. Leaves in shadow, or at the bottom of bushes, are the darkest greens. Facing upwards, the leaves are more of a blue-green. Backlit edges of trees appear lighter. Displaying these variations brings your greens to life.
