What I’m Working On – Painting of the Week
What I’m Working On
Dear Friends,
Last week, I painted a mountain scene at my California studio. This large commission is both demanding and exciting. Being there made all the difference—during my morning walks, I could study the fresh cloud formations around the mountains and gain a deeper understanding of the landscape.
I created the underpainting in Fargo, then shipped and stretched the canvases in California. Hanging them side-by-side took up the entire studio wall. I started with large brushes and incorporated a sponge brush, which worked wonderfully for layering transparent glazes while letting the underpainting show through.
Though I wasn’t able to finish before leaving, I poured everything into it—including over $800 in paint so far! It is incredibly rewarding to watch this piece come to life.
