Shopping District – Original Acrylic Painting

Shopping District is an original acrylic painting and assignment born in the heart of the California Desert Plein Air Festival. I love painting cityscapes. It was captured on-site and shows a few shops with a landscaped divider on El Paseo in Palm Desert, CA. Palms line the street and there are wonderful shopping and dining there. It’s just a fun place to be.  

To capture the crisp, cool morning light and beat the desert heat, this piece was started at dawn, utilizing the fast-drying nature of acrylics to layer vibrant colors before the sun shifted. Inspired by the light-study traditions of Claude Monet, this painting maintains a consistent, harmonious shadow. It is a sophisticated cityscape that brings a piece of California’s desert into your collection.
