Provisions – Painting of the Week
The Balancing Color
Highway 22 from Dickinson, ND passes by miles of ranch and public land with an occasional curve. Provisions literally was painted from a scene “out in the middle of nowhere” from photos I took on our journeys back from California. I didn’t see any deer as we drove by, but these bales needed fences around them for a good reason. I almost want to apologize as I took quite a bit of artistic liberty roughing up the fences which in reality were tall, strong and impenetrable, but certainly not photogenic.
The dominant colors Orange and Blue are complimentary colors that are quite toned down, and when mixed equally, they create a brown. To Balance these complimentary colors, both of them were pushed around with a little red plus each other. This gives a lot of variety in the color yet keeps them held together.
Sincerely,

See Provisions in-person along with other of my favorites at the Underbrush Gallery in Fargo. My cell phone camera which is generally good, didn’t do justice to this palette.
