Off to Work
A couple of years ago I was teaching a workshop in Bismarck. I drove from my host’s home down Washington to BAGA located on Front Street each morning. It was around 8:30 am. The expressway lit up like a jewel making a T where the streets joined in the distance. It was impossible to photograph the view. Surrounded by cars on both sides each morning, the place I wanted to stand was surely a death sentence. Yet with my upcoming show at the Capital Gallery it had to be painted. David Borlaug and Marcy Narum even went to work early to photograph the scene for me. Armed with my memory, their photograph and 14 photographs of cars driving down streets, this scene was pulled together.
