Desert Bloom Print on Demand

The Saguaro Cacti have such a unique shape and grow primarily in southern Arizona and Western Sonora, Mexico. The color of the desert dramatically changes in the spring when many wild flowers bloom. There is no doubt that the silhouette of the mountains is the perfect backdrop to this landscape.  Teddy-Bear Cholla needles sparkling in the light are anything but soft and were fascinating to paint. Desert Bloom, is a recent commission created for a Minnesota couple for their new home in Arizona.

Sage is the dominant green of the desert. French Ultramarine Blue, #5 gray and Naples Yellow were mixed to portray the colors of the Saguaro Cactus. Quinacradone Red was added for value changes and placed to bring out the greens. More French Ultramarine Blue was pushed into the shaded areas. The clumping of the wildflowers overlaps and moves you through the foreground.
