The peaceful feeling of this painting is created by the horizontal bands, in this case, water. The slight up and downs in the boats, buildings and reflections add interest. Blues and Greens and Violets are not only harmonious colors that make the painting glow, they are the most restful colors. I love the mystery of what’s around the bend and how the aerial perspective turns the distant clusters of trees blue. Such organization is called a Static Composition and promotes restfulness. There are many deep glazes and variations of the blues to pull you into a dream like state.
See this original and others at the Forest Edge Gallery in Vergas, MN this weekend. You may find The Forest Edge almost a retreat, and it is truly a fun place to check out if you are in the lakes area!
