Peony Tapestry – Painting of the Week
Inspiration
Many things inspire me to paint. My mother told me Peonies were her favorite flower. I love painting them and picking them early. Their buds are amazing, and when they’re dried, they look like little roses. Their fragrance is wonderful! Peony leaves are also beautiful too, so off-season, I often use them in arrangements. It’s best to pick them early for a bouquet. Since they are larger in size, Peonies also make a great backdrop for smaller flowers.
This painting was very difficult. In my upcoming Beginning Watercolor Workshop, we simplify everything. We will practice the basic shape of flowers with visual volume so your paintings aren’t flat. Watercolor is ideal for capturing the delicacy of a flower. Color mixing and studying related colors with varied value (the lightness o the darkness of a color) will help you start painting great shapes with beautiful color and contrast. There are many inspiring subjects to paint!
Sincerely,
