Underlying Shapes
Staring at this new painting “Quiet Elegance” tonight, I felt peace. There is something so welcoming about it. Then I noticed how the dark patterns have an almost human like shape of outstretched open arms. This was totally unplanned, but perhaps is why I feel this. Do you see it?
Despite this activity of the Neo-Impressionistic brushwork, there is an overall flow to this composition. The top shapes are the smallest giving distance and a simplified pattern. The most solid petal is a simple shape and the larger shapes below describe the detail. See how the flower shapes support each other.
