Building Transparent Layers in Watercolor

With Instructor Ellen Jean Diederich TWSA, RRWS, WSA, WW

Do you want your watercolors to be well designed, sparkle and have strength and beauty?  Design and building transparent layers are the focus of this video workshop. Discover how to connect and contrast values to develop your subject and composition. Practice layering beautiful transparent washes while painting around shapes. Some prior painting experience is required.

This video workshop has handouts and downloadable images to print out. Your account allows you to start and stop this video and watch it again as often as you want.  Play it again and paint using your own photos. Log on and review as often as you like!

Syllabus

Day 1 Practice layering paint to develop a subject. The layers help you create depth in your paintings. Learn about timing for success, choosing and connecting the background to your subject.
Day 2 Warm & cool dominance. Develop a limited palette using only  3 colors and adjust them to be either warm or cool. Observe how the colors change when layered. Work on a color sketch for your painting.
Day 3 & 4: Design and work, step by step, through a painting.  Watch critiques showing how paintings can be modified for more effective  design.

Ellen Jean Diederich is foremost a unique Neo-Impressionist. Her work embodies the heartland of America. She paints the beauty of everyday life. From farms and fields to the cities and streets she captures hope and beauty in the world.
