Sugarplum Visions – Giclée Reproduction

Sugarplum Visions is a watercolor Giclée Reproduction by Ellen Jean Diederich of a cozy home set in the heart of a winter wonderland.

Behind the piece: I headed across the river on a similar snowy sunlit day for my inspiration for this. This home is kitty-corner to Fjelstad Hall on the Concordia College campus in Moorhead, MN. It is so much fun to see how people decorate their homes and this charming house caught my attention with its red and green and gorgeous trees. Sugarplum Visions is available as a Season’s Greetings card, and a giclée.

Sugarplum Visions was created in one of my workshops where we explored painting snow and using Cobalt Green which is a light cool toned green. You can find this color in the upper left corner branches of the painting. Cobalt Green is a lighter value granular pigment that doesn’t take over and works well with pinks and reds. It was particularly fun to paint the pine trees in front. I painted snowy shapes like Dairy Queen Cones, modeling the light changes, and then added the branches peeking out.  Notice how the colors vary in the green branches. Look at how the Elm branches change color as your eye follows them.
