Summer Hum

These bee condominiums have a nice view of the Red River Valley. Their Frank Lloyd Wright-like minimalistic design also mimics the color of the landscape beautifully.  Have you ever seen the interior of a hive with the wood pallets with honeycomb design? They help the bees quickly build the comb to fill with honey. The beekeepers then slide the trays out when they are full, spinning the honey out of them and melting the wax. The whole production of the bees is so absolutely amazing as they create more honey with the beekeepers help. One wonders how far the bee flies to find the flora for their nectars to create a very unique blend of honey.

This painting is about the horizontal bands and beauty of the landscape, interrupted with an irregular geometric pattern of bee boxes. They are related by color. There is deep space on the horizon. The whole color scheme focuses on the contrast of the complementary colors of yellow and violet and a variation of cool greens. Note the pale neutral greens in the distance, that let you feel the distance.
