Behind the piece: a golfer knows that the direction of the wind affects the direction of their stroke. Here at Poppie’s Pond, named after a former Mission Hills Tournament Director, Terry Wilcox, “nicknamed Poppie”, the 18th hole becomes a very tight target to land on. A breeze could easily affect their success. A woman golfer, Amy Alcott to the first winning leap into Poppie’s Pond after her victory in 1988, and a tradition was born.
I was inspired to paint the famous pond when I was looking out at the great expanse of blue mountains, leaving the clubhouse.
This elegantly textured original has a shiny varnish that really brings out the color; it is framed in a narrow black frame.
