Mystic Boat Ride

The lake has been so beautiful these September weekends.  It is so quiet; you can almost have the whole lake to yourself. The quietness added to these boaters Mystic Boat Ride on a partly-sunny day that looks like they can keep going on forever. Of course, we were behind them in our boat. It’s interesting how lake property, pretty much gives you access to the entire lake…as if you have a huge back yard-generally called the front.

Here I wanted to paint the inlets on the lake and how in the distance accenting how the shoreline turns into a faded blue shape in the distance.  Watercolor seems ideal for painting water and atmospheric space.  Showing how colors appear cooler and lighter in value in the distance and warmer and darker in the foreground is called aerial perspective or atmospheric perspective.
