Painting of the Week

Painting of the Week – Study of Greens

Will This Work?

Will this Work?

Sometimes a photo mesmerizes me. This one did. However, every time I looked at the one painted here, experience reminded me that it would be a tremendous amount of work and might not be attractive. So I created this study simplifying the subject. Please understand, it’s still worth working through the bluffs, such as: “The smoke in the air was blocking my view”, but for all intents and purposes, it is a study. I found it very fresh and challenging. What do you think of this subject?

It turned out fun. I simply focused on the goal of the painting and how to make it work. The tricky part is some of the same greens are used in the foreground as well as the background, but some push back and others come forward. Basically, everything was a variety of greens and the key was contrast and direction.

This Wednesday, meet me at the Forest Edge Gallery along with three other guest artists. I will be outdoors demonstrating watercolor.  Hope to see you there!

Sincerely,
