Painting of the Week – Foragers

Open Minded Inspiration

On the way home from dropping Brittany off at Denver University, I saw countless varieties of amazing multi-colored cows in interesting landscapes. Paul wouldn’t stop on the interstate. Finally, on a two lane highway he stopped and said “here are some cows to take photos of”. So, I started taking pictures of the solid Black Angus against a plain gold field. Then a cow that must have rested on a cow pie walked by with a sage brush glued onto her rear end. I remember saying “get out of the picture” to no avail as she continued to block my view of the other cows.

There was an inspiring surprise for me in the cow photographs. The sagebrush cow had a beautiful gold and green leaf pattern on her black coat. I decided to enhance that and carved a stamp with an irregular grass pattern, stamping back and forth between the cows and the gold grass.  I used some of my other stamps as part of the stamping pattern too. Acrylic on paper was the perfect medium for this activity.
