Garden Posts – Painting of the Week
Subtle Diagonals
Seeing the pink bougainvillea backlighting these cacti at a stoplight made me circle back to take their picture. Garden Posts features tall, narrow plants called Post Cactus arranged in a rock garden with round Pineapple Agave in the foreground. The light pink Bougainvillea in the background complements the warm intense greens of the cactus. It was exciting to paint them on a large scale.
Green and Red are complimentary colors. You can get the same impact with greens and light pinks. The slight diagonal of their arrangement activates the composition while the verticals give it stability. Using a grid underneath inspired much creativity.
Sincerely,

I hope to see you at the Desert Open Studios Tour this weekend.

To stop by, please set your GPS for the Dinah Shore Gate – Mission Hills Country Club. Tell the gate attendant you are here to visit Ellen Jean Diederich’s Studio for the Desert Open Studios tour. Take an immediate right onto Legacy, and the second right turn and head to 217 Loch Lomond Road.
***Avoid frustration, do not put my address into your GPS as it will take you to 2 different gates you cannot enter.
